Frequently Asked Questions

What is bean-to-bar chocolate?

From Bean to Bar: Our Commitment to Quality

At Mindo, we are dedicated to the art of chocolate-making, overseeing every step of the journey from the moment our cocoa beans are carefully harvested in the lush cloud forests of Ecuador to the final touch of tempering right here in Michigan. This hands-on approach, which we proudly refer to as "Bean-to-Bar," empowers us to maintain meticulous quality control at every stage of production.

By managing the entire process, we ensure that each batch of chocolate reflects our unwavering commitment to excellence. Our intimate involvement in the sourcing, processing, and crafting of our chocolate allows us to deliver a product that not only delights the senses but also honors the integrity of the ingredients. Experience the distinct flavors and exceptional quality that arise from our passion and expertise.

To ensure that we consistently meet our rigorous quality standards, we are proud to partner with TMA. Their commitment to sourcing exceptional ingredients allows us to access the highest quality cocoa and other vital components. This partnership not only enhances our chocolate-making process but also supports sustainable practices that benefit both the environment and the communities involved in cocoa production. Together, we’re dedicated to creating exceptional chocolate that you can feel good about enjoying.

Where is your chocolate made?

Most of our chocolate is made at our Chocolate Factory in Dexter, Michigan. We source our cocoa from Ecuador, ship the cacao nibs to Dexter, and make the chocolate by hand there. Our  bars are made at our sister location in Mindo, Ecuador.

The majority of our chocolate is made at our production facility in Dexter, Michigan. We source our cocoa from Ecuador and ship the cacao in nibs and other usable forms, where it's received by our team and handcrafted into our bars. Our Country of Origin bars are produced at our sister location in Mindo, Ecuador, allowing us to showcase the unique flavors of the region.
